Valve Touts Newly Redesigned Steam Controller

It’s been a little while now since we last had a chance to get our hands on the Steam controller (CES in January to be precise) and since then things have changed quite a bit.

The first major overhaul you will notice is that Valve have completely dropped the center touch-pad on the unit. We now are graced with two separate diamond style button layouts, one with more standard directional arrows, the other with very Xbox like buttons.

The change was made o better address the issue of backwards compatibility with Steam’s large library of games that already have standard game-pad support with Microsoft’s 360 controller.

So far the only details Valve has given is that the new buttons are analog. We hope to have more news on this newly revamped controller next week during the GDC conference.
