Should’ve checked his assassin ranking.

A woman from Rockwood, Michigan has pled guilty to attempting to hire a hitman to do away with her ex-husband. Said hitman, as it turned out, was a fake. The woman, Wendy Lynn Wein, 52, pled guilty to charges of solicitation of murder and using a computer to commit a crime on November 12th, according to the Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

For that, her plea gives a cap of 108 months in prison on the minimum prison sentence. Wein’s sentencing hearing is set for January 13th, 2022 in front of Monroe Circuit Judge Daniel White.

Authorities were tipped off the the plot in Spring 2020 when they were contacted by the owner of a site called “Rent-A-Hitman”. Wein had filled out a service request form. She asked for consultation with a professional in fixing an “issue” with her ex-husband.

“Rent-A-Hitman”, however, only existed for the purposes of being a cyber security test site. The owner, upon seeing the request from Wein, became worried that she was serious and actually sought to kill her ex. He then contacted the Police.

Despite the fact that she wisely used a pseudonym, she still filled out the request using her personal information, according to officials. And so, with help from two state police undercover narcotic units, MANTIS and LAWNET, an undercover officer was sent to pose as the hitman for the meetup.

On July 17th, the undercover officer met with Wein in a South Rockwood parking lot. Wein offered the fake hitman $5000, plus out-of-state travel expenses up front to go and kill her ex-husband. At which point, the jig was up, and she was arrested and sent to Monroe County Jail.
