World of Warcraft Loses Upfront Fee, Old Expansions are Now Free

World of Warcraft

Now you just need to pay monthly, as usual.

Heretofore, if you wanted to play World of Warcraft, you were paying up front for a battle chest, just to wind up paying a monthly fee. Well, that is now a thing of the past. Blizzard has done away with the battle chests (You litereally can’t find them on the store anymore). You can just jump in, and you only have to worry about your monthly fee.

And what’s more? All previous expansions are now free. They advise you on all of this on the newly revised subscription page:

Get access to World of Warcraft® and every expansion through Legion™ with your subscription—no additional purchase required. Begin your journey today and play up to level 110 through six expansions of adventure!

Granted, you’ll still be paying for the upcoming Battle of Azeroth expansion. But considering what you’re getting just for your subscription, that’s a small price to pay. So now might be a perfect time to jump in, whether you’re a World of Warcraft veteran, or a newbie.
