Xbox One to Support Alexa and Google Assistant

Cortana’s coming up Miss Congeniality.

It seems Microsoft’s Xbox One is going to support Amazon’s Alexa and google Assistant in the near future. According to Windows Central, future versions of the Xbox dashboard will include options for using either digital assistant via a skill on the given platform. Right now, only Cortana is supported via Kinect or a headset. That said, Cortana is a bit more limited than other digital assistants.

It’s entirely possible that this integration will allow Xbox One owners to control their console via Alexa or Google Assistant. That said, there’s not really any indication as to the level the platforms will be integrated.

This all comes on the heels of Xbox vet Albert Penello joining Amazon to “help figure out how to grow Alexa/Echo presence in gaming“. This will only snowball Alexa’s market presence to a higher degree. Also, Microsoft has been working with Amazon to integrate Cortana and Alexa, meaning that soon all Windows PCs will have Alexa on them.
