Xbox One’s Morning Black Screen Issue

Many players woke up this morning to find that their Xbox One consoles refused to actually startup properly. Microsoft confirmed the issue, which had consoles boot to a black screen, ultimately failing in most cases to start up as they should. That said, there were also sign in, game update, and Guide issues for those not met with a black screen, so it seems no one got away from the problem scot-free.

According to Microsoft’s Brad Rossetti, the issue was caused by a “service change”.

Xbox One Users – we have identified the service causing the black screens and working on rolling back the service change – please be patient.

Microsoft spent the morning rolling back the changes, and everything seems to be working now. As to what, precisely, was the cause of the problem is anyone’s guess. But at least now, you won’t miss your turn on the Xbox.
