You’ll never score that NES Classic Edition you wanted

NES Classic Edition

Nintendo is being about as Nintendo as it can be right now. The company has announced that the crazy popular NES Classic Edition is being discontinued after being nearly completely sold-out its entire production run.

Nintendo stated that the last shipments of the console to North America are happening this month. So if you were hoping to get your hands on a unit, you better check your local retailers like a hawk, lest those scummy re-sellers get to them first.

A statement released to IGN from Nintendo stated that the “NES Classic Edition wasn’t intended to be an ongoing, long-term product.” That said, the Japanese Famicom version of the console looks to be sticking around a little longer for whatever reason.

The NES Classic Edition did, in many ways, feel like a stopgap release to keep Nintendo in the limelight as their Nintendo Switch console was never going to make the holiday release of last year. Still, it just sucks so many people out there can’t snag one. But feat not as I’m sure Nintendo would be happy to sell you all the game individually at a mark-up on the Switch virtual console.
