Simon Pegg, who plays everyone’s favorite chief engineer, Scotty in the recent Star Trek movie reboot series, is moving up into some pretty uncharted territory, at least in the world of Star Trek. The fine folks over at Deadline are reporting that Pegg has been tapped to move into a screenwriting position on the upcoming Star Trek 3.
While Pegg won’t be doing this all on his lonesome, he is co-writing the script with Doug Jung (“Dark Blue), he will now have two major roles in the future of the Star Trek franchise and in how he shapes the world.
This isn’t the first time that Pegg has taken to being a screenwriter as he previously worked on the Edgar Wright-directed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. No word yet on if the Cornetto saga will be getting a fourth installment with Star Trek 3.
Star Trek 3 is currently scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release, which will place it alongside the 50th anniversary of the “Star Trek” franchise. We look forward to seeing what Pegg brings to the table in this new capacity.
