Jake Gyllenhaal Has Reportedly Passed On Suicide Squad

Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad film has run into another bump in the road. Variety is reporting that actor Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on the role of Suicide Squad team leader Rick Flag. While the film’s director had previously worked with Gyllenhal on End of Watch, it seems that, for whatever reason, he has passed on the role.

Tom Hardy was originally set to play Rick Flag, but pulled out after reading the amended script. It seems that while Hardy was excited to once again join the ranks of DC villainy, the new script featured a much reduced role for Flagg in favor of featuring other villains, most notably Jared Leto’s Joker.

It should also be noted that while the studio is in a desperate hunt for a replacement (Suicide Squad begins filming in April), word on the street is that Batman will be making a cameo in the project in some capacity. I’m excited to see what comes of Suicide Squad, but right now things are pretty messy with the production.
