Activision Blizzard Announces Warcraft Mobile Content For This Year

Warcraft

Do you guys not have phones?

Well, I guess this was someone’s wish, but according to Activision Blizzard, there’s some Warcraft content headed to mobile devices sometime this year.

The news comes from their quarterly earnings report, which states that they’re planning “substantial new content” for Warcraft this year, including new mobile content for the franchise. Most importantly, they differentiate it from the likes of Hearthstone; this is something, supposedly, new.

Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time.

You, uh, might remember the last time Blizzard tried to make a mobile-only version of one of their franchises; that, of course, being the 2018 announcement of Diablo Immortal.

Diablo Immortal is currently in a limited alpha, and apparently offers a decent mobile Diablo experience. Warcraft, or at least its classic iteration, isn’t really something you’d consider a good translation to touch devices, at least not as well as Diablo. That said, there’s not really any actual information on what form this content is going to take yet. So who knows? Might wind up not being either an MMO or a Real-time Strategy game.
