Alan Rickman’s death has ended Galaxy Quest 2 plans

Galaxy Quest 2

Alan Rickman was a lovely man with a number of iconic roles, but I’ll always remember him as the villainous Hans Gruber from Die Hard. Another of the projects he is most loved for is Galaxy Quest. The film was a spoof on a Star Trek like television show that aliens think is real. A misunderstanding that leads to many classic comedy moments.

There have been talks online for years about a sequel being in the works to the cult film, and it seems one almost came to pass very recently. Amazon, in its quest for exclusive original properties, was about to get started on a sequel to the film. It would have brought back all the principal cast for another adventure.

But with the passing of Rickman, it seems the project is no more. Speaking on the Nerdist podcast Sam Rockwell, one of the original films stars said,

“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon. We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available – he has a show – and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.”
