Paramount Developing Second Star Trek Movie In Addition To Star Trek 4

Star Trek

Finally getting Delta Shift in order, eh, Riker?

Yesterday saw the news that Paramount was at work on a second Star Trek film in addition to the long-awaited Star Trek 4 (no, not that Star Trek 4, lens flare Apple store Star Trek 4).

The initial news came from Deadline, with reports claiming the film “expands on the Star Trek universe.” While the ubiquitous J.J. Abrams is producing, Paramount has tapped Toby Haynes (Andor Emmy winner, Hugo winner for his work with Doctor Who) to direct. They also have Seth Grahame-Smith (The Lego Batman MovieBeetlejuice 2) writing the script, which is said to be “an origin story that takes place decades before” the 2009 Star Trek movie.

On the flipside, Star Trek 4 is still in the works. Originally set for a Christmas 2023 release, a number of disagreements and delays in regards to the script caused director Matt Shakman to depart from the project in 2022. Deadline now describes the film as “the final chapter in the main series.”

Neither Star Trek 4 or this new film have any set release date as of yet.
