Andy Serkis to direct The Jungle Book

Today is a slow news day. It happens. And when it does happen, I think to myself, “Screw it, I’ll just post the next news item I see.” Aaaaand of course it’s about a remake. Here we go.

Did you know there are two competing Jungle Book movies being rushed into production? Well, there are. One will be directed by Jon Favreau, and feature Idris Elba as the voice of Shere Khan, which admittedly sounds pretty badass. The other Jungle Book – the live-action one – will be directed by Andy Serkis, who you should know as Gollum. Serkis is coming on board after Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel) and Ron Howard (several Ron Howard films) dropped out.

This will be Serkis’s first time behind the camera, although he did do some second-unit directing on The Hobbit. Originally he planned to make Animal Farm his directorial debut, but apparently that’s on hiatus.
