Blizzard wants you to stop using that mouse and keyboard for Overwatch on consoles

The keyboard and mouse is king. I’ve said this for years and is the main reason I’ve never been able to get into the FPS scene on the console front. I play Paladins and Overwatch pretty regularly, but when I jumped over to the Xbox One I turned into a person with wet noodles for fingers.

But it seems that these fancy new consoles allow players to hook up a mouse and keyboard to them. This only makes sense as both the Xbox One and PS4 are simply underpowered gaming PCs. But it seems Blizzard isn’t all that happy with that little feature.

A poster over on the official  Overwatch forums made the claim that all the high-level players on console are using a mouse and keyboard setup. They go on to say that this is unfair –I completely agree– and wanted to know what Blizzard thought of the situation.

They got their response from game director Jeff Kaplan:

“The Overwatch team objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console. We have contacted both first-party console manufacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices.” He continued saying “We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices, OR openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for ALL players.”

It should be noted that you can’t just plug in that generic keyboard and mouse into your Xbox One and have at it. The developers of each game can choose to activate the feature and probably support certain devices. I have no idea as I have a PC, but there is a workaround in the form of really expensive input conversion devices.

But there are a number of users and demo videos arguing on both fronts. Some say the keyboard and mouse serve up a huge advantage, while other say the advantage is minimal at best because of how many of the console games, especially Overwatch, handle aiming differently on console than on PC.
