Boy everyone hates to star in stupid-sounding movie

I can’t believe I’ve written about Jaden Smith twice this week. Twice! Anyway, apparently there are some casting directors in Hollywood who haven’t gotten the memo that Jaden is more or less a laughingstock, because he’s just signed on to appear in The Good Lord Bird opposite Liev Schreiber (an actor with actual talent).

From The AV Club, via Deadline:

Smith has signed on to put aside his “Willow” drag and don the cross-dressing garb of Henry “Onion” Shackleford, a young slave who falls in with the abolitionist John Brown (played by Liev Schreiber), then proceeds to live a lie as a girl while interacting with a cast of antebellum characters like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass.

The book has drawn comparisons to Mark fucking Twain, so naturally Hollywood decided to put Jaden Smith, our generation’s Socrates, in a dress. Somewhere Tyler Perry is kicking himself for not thinking of making a slavery cross-dressing movie.
