Canceled Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun Footage Leaks

Legacy of Kain Dead Sun

NeoGAF does it again and comes up with more goodies from games that never saw the light of day. A user going by the handle ‘Mama Robotnik’ (love it!) has managed to unearth footage of the canceled Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun. The game was three years into development at Climax before it kicked the bucket.

Crystal Dynamics, the team behind the original series, were also involved in overseeing this new project, but with the Tomb Raider reboot also in the works at the same time, their attention was primarily focused on that.

While the game was progressing along nicely, Square Enix canceled the project for fears that it would not meet sales targets. While the Kain series is revered by many fans, it makes sense from a business perspective to drop Dead Sun to play more focus on other titles, like Tomb Raider, a game that would go on to be the darling of Game of The Year awards lists.

But this wasn’t the end of Dead Sun (you can never keep a good soul reaver down) as the multiplayer mode would survive and become the free-to-play PC game Nosgoth.

The game looked like it would have been a lot of fun, but it would have no doubt soured longtime fans of the series for the direction it was taking. While we will never get our hands on the title a thirty-minute story/gameplay demo that was passed around the office is now available for all to see.

I’m just glad it’s dead, if only so we wouldn’t have to see the lady/ladies in armor with one exposed breast for no reason.
