Director Michelle MacLaren leaves Wonder Woman film over creative differences

Michelle MacLaren

People were really happy to hear that Michelle MacLaren was taking to the director chair for the upcoming Wonder Woman film for Warner Bros. She was an experienced showrunner/director and worked on such series as Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Better Call Saul. That is a pretty impressive resume on arguably the best television shows currently on the air.

So, couple that with the fans desire to see a woman direct the ultimate female super hero, it’s sad to see MacLaren part ways with the project. The studio released the following statement regarding the split:

Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.”

While that is always the sort of generic statement studios always give with regards to these departures, it’s one that may be quite troubling with fans. This isn’t the first time a high-profile female director has left a big comic book film project over “creative differences” as director Patty Jenkins also left Thor 2, once again over “creative differences.”

No word on a new director or if this departure will affect the scheduled 2017 release date for Wonder Woman.
