EA Allegedly Under Criminal Investigation In Belgium Over FIFA Loot Boxes

LOL.

According to Eurogamer, the Belgian government has launched a criminal investigation into EA. Why, Because EA has refused to comply with the recent Belgian gambling laws declaring loot boxes in games to be illegal.

And it wasn’t Star Wars Battlefront II that  did them in this time. It was FIFA 18. According to Dutch publication Metro, EA didn’t modify the game to meet the standards of the law. Namely, being more transparent about what items are contained in Ultimate Team Packs and loot boxes.

EA, of course, contends that these aspects of the game aren’t gambling. Which is an attitude that will certainly go over well in Belgian courts. But hey, at least they’ll be able to get some of those swag-as-hell waffles, right?
