Edgar Wright drops out of Ant-Man

Well, this sucks. Edgar Wright (The World’s End, Shaun of the Dead) just dropped out of Marvel’s Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, and Patrick Wilson. Let’s see why:

“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film,” a statement read. “The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

I call bullshit. Edgar Wright has been involved with Ant-Man since 2006, so my guess is he told Marvel the same thing that Guillermo del Toro told Peter Jackson when he dropped out of The Hobbit: You’re taking way the fuck too long.

I’m officially way less interested in seeing this movie now. Half of Ant-Man‘s appeal was Wright’s involvement, so my only hope is that Marvel gets someone equally as unexpected and exciting to fill in for him.
