Fantastic Four casts its Doctor Doom

A few weeks ago, we told you about the actors on the shortlist to play Dr. Doom, PhD, in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot. It appears that a decision has been made, because Variety is reporting that Fox has decided on Rocknrolla‘s Toby Kebbell, pictured below with a beard that I really hope they let him keep in the movie.

I liked Kebbell’s manic energy in Rocknrolla, and I think with the right script and direction (which Trank is absolutely capable of providing), he’ll do a fine job. As unnecessary as this reboot is, it’s nice to see studios learning lessons. Julian McMahon was awful as Doom in the first FF movie, so Kebbell’s casting seems to be a rejection of the old adage that “conventionally handsome man + mask = great villain.”

Fantastic Four will hit theaters on June 19, 2015. And the sequel is already slated to come out in 2017, so mark your calendars, I guess. We’ll probably have a new Spider-Man and a fourth Wolverine film in theaters by then too.
