Fortnite Briefly had Cross-Console Play

It’s over now.

Epic Games’ Fortnite briefly had cross console play between PS4 and Xbox One. As it turns out, it was actually a mistake. As such, Epic Games fixed it, much to the chagrin of gamers and Phil Spencer.

Since Fortnite is a survival shooter, having known entities covering your back is a good thing. 4 randos is as bad there as that level 9 Hanzo you’ve seen. So you can imagine how happy players were to find that they were actually playing against people on other consoles. Especially since Sony’s been curmudgeonly towards Microsoft for the past few years on the issue out of spite.

Nonetheless, all good things must come to pass. In accordance with Sony’s wishes, Epic Games patched the “Configuration Issue”, and two worlds are separated once again. But Fortnite players will always remember the day they played with the other camp, like a virtual Christmas Truce.
