Welcome to GAMbIT’s inagural trailer roundup. These articles are easy to write, and convenient for the usually hungover blogger on the go. Let’s get started.
First up is Woody Allen’s Magic in the Moonlight, his follow-up to last year’s Blue Jasmine. The film stars Colin Firth as a debunker of mystics, who is sent to the south of France to investigate Sophie (Emma Stone). But soon he starts to believe she’s the real deal. It actually doesn’t look bad. That said, I’m still gonna wait until it’s on Netflix. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for Scoop, is all I’m gonna say.
Next we have Life of Crime, which looks way better than it should. It’s basically a weird spiritual sequel to Jackie Brown, in that Mos Def (credited here as Yasiin Bey), John Hawkes, and Isla Fisher play the roles previously inhabited by Samuel L. Jackson, Robert DeNiro, and Bridget Fonda’s toes. Life of Crime also stars Tim Robbins, Will Forte, Mark Boone Jr, and “America’s Sweetheart” Jennifer Aniston (Ed. Note – hahahahaha!)
And here’s Wish I Was Here, the movie that Zach Braff got a ton of shit for funding through Kickstarter. But joke’s on you, assholes, cause it got made anyway! I have a few things to say: 1, I am 0% surprised to see someone wearing an astronaut helmet by the beach; 2, we need a moratorium on people lifting their arms in cars; and 3, Jim Parsons is in this – hooray, I guess. Bazinga, dickhead. Seriously, if you like The Big Bang Theory you are on the wrong fucking website. Where was I? Oh right, the trailer.
It must be Colin Firth day at GAMbIT, because here’s the trailer for Kingsman: The Secret Service. The title sucks, but it looks pretty badass. Based on a comic by Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar, it’s directed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class). Count me in for this one. I wonder if Mark Strong turns out to be the villain, just like in…*checks Mark Strong’s IMDb page*…every movie he’s ever made.
The Search is an update of the 1948 film by Fred Zinnemann (High Noon), from The Artist‘s Michael Hazanavicius. To his credit, he’s not resting on his laurels; this looks about as far away from The Artist as you can get.
This Jersey Boys trailer is about a month old, but fuck off, I just saw it today. Only Clint Eastwood could pull off making a movie about the Four Seasons with the same color palette as Mystic River.
Jason Nash is Married is Comedy Central’s first digital feature film, available online June 24. It stars – sigh – “Vine celebrity” Jason Nash as a man struggling to grow up. It doesn’t look bad, but I’m mainly saying that because of the cast. Fun Fact: I named my boner H. Jon Benjamin. Just my boner, not my penis. That would be weird.
