Guild Wars 2 base game now free

Guild Wars 2
ArenNet had a big announcement regarding Guild Wars 2 at PAX this morning. The company is making the Guild Wars 2 base game free to download and play. If you have missed out on this excellent MMO –guilty as charged, although I spent hundreds of hours on the first one– now is you chance to jump on-board.Speaking with PC Gamer, Mike O’Brian, ArenaNet president said the following, “We believe that if people love Guild wars 2, they’re gonna buy the expansion pack,” He went on to say that, “The expansion pack is such a great value. There’s so much content, not only in the expansion pack but in all the free updates that will come past that.”

As A player of the first game and its many expansion packs –remember those things– I can say that the Guild Wars team has always done right by the amount of content their packs provide. I can only assume this has carried over to Guild Wars 2, but I’ll know soon enough as I plan on diving onto this new world this weekend; the game is currently downloading as I type this

The Heart of Thorns expansion is scheduled for a October 23 release, so this means that you’ll have more than enough time to get deep into Guild Wars 2 and see if it’s right for you.
