Idris Elba Takes Over Deadshot Role In Suicide Squad 2

Suicide Squad 2

That’s just the way with genies, I suppose.

After Will Smith exited the Suicide Squad franchise due to scheduling conflicts, there was some wonder as to what Warner Bros. would do. But according to a report from Variety, the plan is to recast the part with Idris Elba.

Reportedly, Elba met with Suicide Squad 2 writer-director James Gunn last week. And apparently that meeting went well; so well, in fact, that the negotiations for Elba to take over the role of Deadshot have gone smoothly.

Also of note is that Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the new movie, presumably set after the upcoming Birds of Prey. While the core cast from the comics remains now that Deadshot has been recast, the film reportedly will introduce a number of new characters.

Suicide Squad 2 is currently set to premiere August 6th, 2021.
