Instagram Is Changing Its Feed Layout

Instagram

Of all the social media platforms out there Instagram is the one I connect with most. I love seeing photos from friends, family, readers, and those of in the industry that I follow. One thing that makes it so simple is that when I open up the app, everything is laid out in chronological order. I can just scroll down through what everyone has been posting until I reach the place where I last left off. It’s a pretty prefect system. But things are about to change.

Starting this month Instagram is going to be fiddling about with the feed system. It’s testing displaying user photos and videos by importance (how does that even work) instead of chronological order. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said about the change that, “You may be surprised to learn that people miss on average 70 percent of their feeds. This means you often don’t see the posts you might care about the most.”

Instagram is the 8th most used app in the world so this change is sure to rile up a great many users -myself included. No word on how this new “importance” algorithm will work, but we imagine that it will pull from users that you interact with most through the application. What I do see happening, and the main reason for the change, is that it will make ads easier to not be able to skip by pushing them to the top.
