John Travolta joins American Crime Story

Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story, his companion series to American Horror Story, continues to round out its cast. After announcing Cuba Gooding, Jr. as O.J. Simpson, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, and AHS mainstay Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, ACS has added another big name to its cast: John Travolta, in the role of Robert Shapiro.

Shapiro was one of the most important presences on Simpson’s defense team, which was nicknamed “the Sweathogs.” American Crime Story will be Travolta’s first television gig since Welcome Back Kotter in the ’70s.

To be perfectly honest, I’m excited for this series. AHS consistently brings batshit craziness to our televisions, so I’m willing to give Murphy the benefit of the doubt. I may have my misgivings about Crime Story‘s cast, but Murphy has proven me wrong before.

Thanks to The AV Club for the heads up.
