Lian Li’s New Gaming Desk Features Transparent OLED Display Built-In To Top

Transparent OLED

All the RGB you could possibly want, ‘natch.

You might remember that this year’s CES was the year of the transparent OLED display. Not to be outdone, Lian Li has gone one step beyond; they’ve built the transparent OLED into the top of the desk.

The desk in question is the latest in the company’s DK motorized gaming desk line, the DK-07. Its predecessor, the DK-05, featured a glass panel that could turn from transparent to opaque with the flick of a switch. The DK-07 does away with that, replacing it with a transparent 30-inch panel from LG. The new display is safely tucked away under the desk’s glass panel, which is naturally larger than the display. The video of the new desk shows an image of waves crashing along a beach, with the implication that it can do so much more.

I may have forgotten to mention that the desk, aside from being a motorized adjustable height desk, is also a PC case, capable of fitting two separate builds, for the ultimate in flex. It’s worth noting that this transparent OLED isn’t meant to be your main display (gamer crap has entirely too much RGB lighting for transparent anything to stand up to it), but it could definitely have its uses. It’d make a decent secondary display, or work well for a simple heads-up-display that you can take a quick glimpse at in the middle of a match or whatever. And that’s aside from the intended effects, like that beach scene. Probably the only drawback to the DK-07 is that it only supports a single monitor via the built-in VESA arm on its back.

It remains to be seen whether the DK-07 will actually hit the market, though. The presenter in the video asks for feedback in the comments, which brings into doubt whether this innovative little desk will ever hit retail. Even if it does, you can probably expect to pay a steep price for it. The DK-05 currently retails for $1,899, and that’s the one that doesn’t have a built-in transparent OLED. Still, you’re getting one hell of a desk for your money, there.
