Marvel’s The Defenders Netflix mini-series has its show runners

The Defenders

Big things are happening not only for the major movie heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also for our street level favorites over on Netflix. I love that Marvel has these two interconnected, yet separate universes going on, as it allows them to tell vastly different stories. The movie universe has these epic battles where the world is on the line, while Netflix pushes the drama envelope telling more relatable stories that we can connect with. It’s like the yin and yang of the comic world on-screen.

It now seems that Netflix has the ball rolling on its own superhero team in The Defenders. The original comic of the same name saw a rotating cast of heroes come together to deal with a threat that could not be handled alone. This makes perfect sense and like the big brother cinematic universe, Marvel and Netflix have been slowly rolling out shows leading up to The Defenders mini-series event. And the people in charge of making it happen sill be the show runners from the fantastic Daredevil.

Douglas Petrie (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and Marco Ramirez (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Orange is the New Black”) are set to return as showrunners for the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s The Defenders”. Joining them will also be Oscar-nominee Drew Goddard (“The Martian,” “Lost,” “Alias”), who will serve as Executive Producer on the project.

The Defenders will unite the Man Without Fear with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist for the mini-series event that brings the team together to face a threat bigger than any single one of them could handle.

Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content said,

“Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience.”

Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez said regarding their new appointment,

“This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story. We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”
