NBC finds its Constantine

NBC has just cast the lead for its forthcoming adaptation of Constantine, the 2005 Keanu Reeves film which in turn was based on the graphic novel Hellblazer created by Alan Moore, Jamie Delano, and John Ridgway. John Constantine will be played by a Welsh actor named Matt Ryan, who has a face that looks like this:

You might recognize him from Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, or, if you’re not 55 years old, as the voice of Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

I’m not sure how to feel about the Constantine TV show, maybe because the movie was pretty underwhelming (but it’s nice to see that its director Francis Lawrence has grown enough as an artist to be given the reins to the remainder of the Hunger Games movies). I know that Neil Marshall (Doomsday, Centurion) is on hand to direct the show, which is good news.

The real question is – will the show, like the film, feature Shia LaBeouf getting the shit kicked out of him? Because now, in the era of “#IAMSORRY,” that would be a ratings bonanza.

What do you guys think of the casting?
