Pokémon Go Fest Turns into a Different Kind of Fest

Pokémon Go Fest

Just blame it on Team Rocket, Niantic.

Niantic held a Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago’s Grant Park today. Roughly 20,000 players were in attendance; impressive since I didn’t know there were that many Pokémon Go players left. But, much like everyone else last year, they were doomed to be disappointed.

Within minutes of the event starting, things began to go wrong. The networks started off shaky, then dropped out completely. Within minutes of the event’s start, the very reason for its existence was no longer usable. Needless to say, those people were pissed.

Niantic is, allegedly, offering refunds to those that think they’re earned it, along with $100 worth of Pokécoins. They are still, however, moving on with their event agenda. That’s right; it’s not over yet. I don’t know what they expected to happen when they dropped 20,000 more people than usual onto an area network. But when you have people swarming the stage to tell you your game’s broken in angrinese, you know you’ve got a problem.
