Prima Games, the makers of those guides back in the day that were practically a necessity for any complex game before the rise of the internet, is shutting down. Per Variety, DK (formerly Dorling Kindersly) has announced that Prima will no longer be commissioning new guides.
“I can confirm that the decision has been made to no longer commission new Prima Games strategy guides and the U.S.-based imprint will be discontinued in Spring 2019,” a spokesperson said via email. “We are in conversations with the Prima Games team and cannot comment on this further at this point.”
The Prima imprint will honor all previous arrangements and pre-orders for guide coming in the next few months. These include guides for titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Anthem. There is currently no word on how employees at the Prima Games imprint will be affected by the closure.
Still we have a few months to bid Prima a fond farewell. Back in the day, their guides were a godsend in a world without constant internet access. So long, my car trip friend.
