Ron Howard to Take Over Directing Han Solo Movie

Chris Miller and Phil Lord were, supposedly, fired from the untitled Han Solo film this week over creative differences. This, of course, left an obvious gap, as the film is still unfinished. Today, however, Ron Howard was announced as the current director of the film.

The interesting thing of note was that, as of Lord and Miller’s firing, principle photography was nearly finished. Still, Howard is a very capable director; he’ll likely finish the typically obligatory reshoots in short order. I mean, he made those shitty Dan Brown novels into legitimate blockbusters; I don’t know what team of warlocks he has working for him, but they’re good at what they do.

The firing, however, was still something of a surprise. Since The Lego Movie, Lord and Miller have had some Hollywood weight to throw around. That they’d be fired over creative differences is odd. Moreover, this introduces a sticky situation regarding credits; the Directors Guild of America doesn’t typically like to list more than two directors.

Regardless, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Howard will soon meet with the cast to allay their concerns. He’ll also see the rough edit as it currently stands.

The still untitled Han Solo film is slated May 25th, 2018.
