Star Wars Rebels “Visions and Voices”

Star Wars Rebels - Visions and Voices-0

Star Wars Rebels is heading into their mid-season finale. Sadly it won’t run until early January, which means this is the last episode this year. But I don’t care, because they’re giving me what I want.

The crew is going over a mission briefing, when suddenly Ezra starts freaking out. He keeps seeing Maul doing the slasher villain walk everywhere. He can’t keep himself focused due to it, and eventually passes out over the table. When he wakes up, he tells everyone that he’s fine, but he’s not. He nearly kills a pilot with his lightsaber, thinking it’s Maul. Kanan has Sabine stick a tracker on Ezra’s com before they go to see if Bendu can sort it all out.

Bendu isn’t really much help; the last bit of advice he gives them before disappearing is not to turn around. They do anyway, and Maul is actually there. Since the holocron fiasco, the two of them have been mentally linked. Ezra got half of the info Maul wanted, and vice-versa. He wants Ezra to come with him so that they can sort it out in some ritual. Kanan doesn’t want to let him go with Maul, but Ezra agrees. He returns to base, and heads off with Sabine to track them.

Maul and Ezra head to Dathomir. Maul’s spent some time researching the rituals of the Nightsisters, and has found one involving their altar that will straighten things out. He’s also accrued a large number of artifacts in a back room, including the Darksaber. He tells Ezra that Sabine would probably be able to tell him all about it, after reminding him not to touch anything.

They perform the ritual on the altar, gaining insight into what they’re both searching for. But then it comes time to pay for the ritual; the spirits of the Nightsisters want flesh. Maul had clearly planned on skipping out on the debt, but Sabine and Kanan just happen to blunder their way onto the scene. They get possessed, and hound Maul and Ezra to the cave’s edge; the spirits are tied to the altar, so they can go no further. Maul implores Ezra to go with him, since he realizes that their goals are practically intertwined, but Ezra’s not leaving his friends. Maul leaves, disgusted with him.

Ezra almost immediately runs afoul of a Darksaber wielding Sabine when he heads back inside the cave. With a little bit of positioning, he’s able to push her outside of the cave, freeing her from their possession. He takes the Darksaber and heads back for Kanan, after telling her to stay outside. Ezra finds Kanan sitting on the altar, super possessed. He tries to bargain with the Nightsisters, offering himself in trade, but they’re having none of it. The second they turn Kanan on him, he uses his lightsaber and the Darksaber to destroy the altar, freeing Kanan.

Sabine shows up just after the crazy Indiana Jones-esque metaphysical explosion. Ezra mentions that he’s surprised their one hope is alive. But he also realizes that Obi Wan is key, and they have to beat Maul to him. He has no clue which binary star system desert planet he’s on, either. As they leave, Sabine picks up the discarded Darksaber. The stage is set for Star Wars Rebels to make me very happy indeed.

Final Thoughts:

– We kind of knew Sabine would get her hands on the Darksaber ahead of time.
– I get the feeling that Bendu isn’t actually physically there at all. Even though he can interact with physical objects.
– I hate the fact that I’m going to have to wait a full month for this.
