Take a look at Marvel’s STEAM-themed variant covers

Marvel has no shortage of scientists on their roster. Iron Man, the Hulk, Ant-Man, the Wasp, Spider-Man, and Dr. Octopus were all scientists in one way or another. Now, in order to encourage readers to enter the fields of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), the publisher is releasing covers featuring some of their characters engaged in intellectual pursuits. It’s impossible to tell if these comics will be any good, because they are almost certainly being produced as collectors’ items. But let’s take a look anyway.

Here’s the cover of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #13, showing Moon Girl, aka Lunella Lafayette, tinkering with science (I believe that’s the correct term). Also, Jesus – Marvel, I know you like alliterative names, but Lunella Lafayette is ri-goddamn-diculous.

Miles Morales, on the cover of Spider-Man #10, plays with some technology…

The Champions, gracing the cover of Champions #2, show off their artistic skills…

And Gwenpool does math and kicks ass on the cover of The Unbelievable Gwenpool #8. (Side note: taking an existing character and adding “Gwen” to their name is the most blatant kind of fan service. Don’t even get me started on Spider-Gwen, which is basically fan fiction come to life.)

The Engineering cover will come out in November, featuring the new Iron Man, Riri Williams.
