Warner Bros Relents, Offers Up Coyote Vs. Acme To Other Streamers

Coyote vs. Acme

Wile E. Coyote: Super Genius

After the massive backlash, Warner Bros. Discovery has backtracked on their treatment of Coyote vs. Acme. Now, rather than write it off for tax purposes, they’ve decided to shop it around to other streamers.

According to Deadline, screenings are set up for Prime Video, Apple, and Netflix this week, to see which of the three will hopefully pick it up.

Frankly, it’s safe to say that until the internet campaign to actually get the film released, many didn’t even know it was being made (I sure didn’t). It probably doesn’t hurt that, of all of Warner’s high-profile writeoffs, Coyote vs. Acme has the broadest appeal. I think anyone that’s watched a Roadrunner short has wondered why the hell the Coyote hasn’t sued Acme, given their products usually turn him into some kind of pancake (or charcoal).

Why they didn’t simply put it on Max and let it drive some subscribers to the now-ailing streamer they own is beyond me. You’d think it’d be an easy win, considering that’s the purpose for which it was originally made. Or, (super) genius idea, here: put it in theaters. It supposedly cost $70 million to make, so with its current guerilla marketing, it could probably recoup that, possibly more.

Sometimes I don’t think these business people are playing with a full deck.
