Xbox Series X Is The Next Games Console From Microsoft

The next generation of video games is nearly upon us, and while they are touting a lot under the hood, I can’t help but feel a little cautious about the just into this next generation. Me personal feelings aside, we finally have news on the next Xbox Console –the Xbox Series X.

Microsoft, in their unending desire to confuse anyone talking about an Xbox, has dubbed their new console Xbox Series X. It’s very similar to the Xbox One X from this generation as well simply Xbox from their very first generation. And you thought having the Wii and Wii U was confusing.

What’s most interesting for people is the fact that the Xbox Series X is a fairly radical design when looking at modern home consoles. For so long the major players have tried to make their devices look like the belong under your television, mimicking DVD players in their wide designs. The Xbox Series X is very square and about the width of a standard Xbox One controller. It looks a lot like a PC that has been, in a sense, miniaturized.

It’s very minimal and almost elegant

The whole thing also gives me Nintendo Gamecube vibes. In fact, it only a little smaller than stacking two Gamecube consoles on top of each other. It’s supposed to blend into your media center, but the height of the thing might be an issue for some. You’ll also note that Xbox is sticking to discs as there is a sid

e-loading slot on the front along with a Xbox logo serving as a power button. It’s very minimal and almost elegant. The Xbox Series X looks like a square tube for a reason as the single fan inside the unit pushes air out of the top.

The console features a new controller that doesn’t do much to update the tried and true design of the Xbox One. Most notable is the inclusion of a share button. Microsoft also notes that the controller features a new hybrid d-pad that was implemented from feedback they garnered from the Xbox One Elite controller.

But all the fancy specs, design, and name mean nothing if you don’t give us games that are worth playing. A new Halo title should hopefully help move consoles, if that series can get itself back on track. Look, I love a pretty game as much as the next guy, but visuals do not make a complete game.

Color me impressed, yet cautious

The trailer for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 looks beautiful, but then again, that’s the point. Though, to be fair to the people behind it, the studio does claim that the above trailer was done using the in-game engine and is running in real time. Color me impressed, yet cautious. All your pretty visuals mean little to an old gamer like myself if, especially if we don’t get to see any actual gameplay using that pretty new engine.

That’s most of what we know about the Xbox Series X, and any new details are being kept close to the chest. Microsoft notes that E3 2020 will be a “big beat for us” and that we should expect lots more details on the new console and launch games then. The Xbox Series X is slated to launch holiday of 2020.
