So long, Fandral; hello grown up Billy Batson.
Yeah, they’re going to avoid calling him Captain Marvel, for obvious reasons. Sorry comic book guys. But Shazam! is next on the list for DC’s Universe, and they’ve cast Zachary Levi as Billy Batson’s alternate, heroic form.
David F Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) is set to direct. The script will be penned by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. And, well they’ll have to tie it all in to the DC Cinematic Universe somehow.
Oh, and while he won’t be appearing in the film, Black Adam has already been cast. Dwayne Johnson will play Shazam’s greatest enemy. But they want each of them to get an origin movie first, before they meet and fight. Shazam! has no set release date, but it wouldn’t be unrealistic to expect it within the next two years.
