Chrysler recalls millions of cars in wake of zero day hack that allows hackers to control your car

We are living in the future, and while companies are fast to introduce new technology they are remarkably slow to fully understand the technology they are implementing. This wasn’t made more clear than by the zero day hack of Chrysler and their new Jeep Cherokee vehicles.

The company has recalled 1.4 million cars thanks to software vulnerabilities that were exposed by a security researchers. This isn’t some hack that took months and years of work, instead the duo were able to take control of the vehicle with a zero day hack. This means that anyone with the right tools can access your car and take control via the internet.

The hack itself was demonstrated to Wired’s Andy Greenberg while he was driving about on the highway in a Jeep Cherokee. This wasn’t a case where the hackers took control of the AC (although they did do that), but managed to beam their faces into the built-dash screen.  The pair also could work the windshield wipers and radio on command, but most scary of all had control over the cars acceleration and steering.
