Almost in time for the ten-year anniversary of the first Sin City, Robert Rodriguez is releasing Sin City: A Dame To Kill For on August 22. The trailer dropped today, so let’s take a look.
Okay, a few things.
1. Does anyone get excited by the names Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller any more? Their last films were Machete Kills and The Spirit. If I were them I wouldn’t put my name in such huge letters.
2. Oh look, Jessica Alba returns as the stripper who never takes her clothes off. Anybody else tired of seeing this in movies?
3. Lady Gaga is in this for some reason. She was in Machete Kills as well, but I don’t see the camp value of putting her in A Dame To Kill F or. Unless…unless Robert Rodriguez is an actual Lady Gaga fan! Oh man, that’d be more of a disappointment than Shark Boy & Lava Girl.
4. The rest of the cast looks pretty good! Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Powers Boothe – all those guys are well suited to noir. My only reservation is that The Spirit might have killed this visual style, slowly and painfully, while we all watched, weeping.
