Marvel drops a ton of info about Phase 3

Marvel Studios hosted a secret event today at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles. A lot of people were wondering what they would announce – is Spider-Man returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? What about Wolverine? Well, what about a huge info dump about Marvel’s Phase 3? Will that suffice?

Avengers 3 – officially titled Avengers: Infinity War, and will be split into two installments, with the first hitting theaters on May 4, 2018, and the second on May 3, 2019. I think it’s safe to assume that the Infinity Gauntlet will be involved in a big, universe-destroying way.

Captain America: Civil War – will come out on May 6, 2016. As the title suggests, Marvel is finally ready to tackle the famous Civil War story arc, with Captain America and Tony Stark leading rival factions against each other in the fight for and against superhero registration. I’m probably the most excited about this announcement, even though there’s no way Sony is gonna let go of Spider-Man for this, and Peter Parker is a huge part of Civil War.

Doctor Strange – comes out November 4, 2016. Sinister‘s Scott Derrickson is directing, which we’ve known for a while; what’s surprising is that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige didn’t confirm Benedict Cumberbatch’s casting (“If it were confirmed, we would have announced it today”). At this point I’m sick to fucking death about casting rumors for a B-list superhero. It’s becoming more tiresome than True Detective season two rumors.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – arrives May 5, 2017. Not a lot of other information to report.

Thor: Ragnarok – July 28, 2017. Feige said that Ragnarok is “the end of all things,” which, yeah, is exactly what Ragnarok is, Kevin. Good job.

Black Panther – comes out November 3, 2017, and T’Challa will be played by Get On Up star Chadwick Boseman.

Captain Marvel – will hit theaters July 6, 2018. Feige announced that Captain Marvel will be Carol Danvers, and the film will be set in space and on Earth.

Inhumans – November 2, 2018. I love that Marvel is willing to bet on obscure franchises like Inhumans and Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know much about Inhumans, but I’m excited nonetheless.

So that’s the thrust of Marvel’s big announcement. Thanks to Uproxx for the heads up, and for compiling the info into a handy list. There are still a few roles left uncast, so let the baseless speculation begin!
