One of these men will (most likely) be the lead in Star Wars: Episode VII

None of this is 100% confirmed yet, but according to Variety, the short list for the lead role in Star Wars: Episode VII has been narrowed down to five names. Naturally JJ Abrams insists on keeping everything clouded in secrecy, as if that’s what we needed to entice us to see another Star Wars movie. Here are the frontrunners:

Jesse Plemons, everyone’s favorite dead-eyed psychopath from Breaking Bad

Ed Speleers, of Downton Abbey (and the star of Eragon, which you just remembered existed)

John Boyega, of Attack the Block

Matthew James Thomas, a theater actor who’s appeared in productions of Pippin and Billy Elliott

thomasAnd Ray Fisher, another theater actor who played Muhammad Ali in Fetch Clay, Make Man

Nothing has been said regarding what kind of character the lead role will be, so it’s hard to say who would be good and who would be bad. That said, I like the diversity here. Not in a “politically correct” way, more of a “the only black people in the original Star Wars were Lando, Captain Panaka, and the lady from the intro video to Star Tours” way. Plemons has been mentioned a lot lately, so he’s ostensibly first in line. Who would you guys like to see?
