Oscar Winner Alicia Vikander Cast As Lara Croft In Tomb Raider Reboot

Alicia Vikander

Variety has reported that Oscar-winning actress, Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) has been cast as everyone’s favorite adventurer, Lara Croft.

Lara Craft was originally played by Angelina Jolie in two films in 2001 and 2003. Those films were… a thing, but they came around at a time when the video game series was in a nosedive into mediocrity.

Square-Enix has received critical acclaim with the video game reboot of the series that has now spanned two games, so the timing for a new film series seems perfect. Better to milk the franchise while it’s good!

Tomb Raider will be directed by Roar Uthaug and will pull inspiration directly from the recent video games. Uthaug said that they are working hard to make this new Lara Croft relatable so that she feels, as he states, “like a real human being.”
