San Diego Comic-Con Is Now Cancelled

San Diego Comic-Con

Same reason everything else was.

For the first time in 50 years, San Diego Comic-Con will not be opening its doors.

Per their official site, SDCC has announced the cancellation of the event this year. Naturally, this is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. That said, they are expecting everything to be back to normal next year. And that’s important for those that bought badges for this year.

Those that bought a badge this year will have two options: they can either get a refund, or they can roll that badge purchase over to 2021’s San Diego Comic Con. Additionally, all Early Bird hotel reservations through onPeak will be refunded in the next few days, despite normally not being refundable. This requires no action on the part of the reservation holders, so you don’t need to do anything.

Comic-Con International made the following statement about the cancellation:

Recognizing that countless attendees save and plan for its conventions each year, and how many exhibitors and stakeholders rely upon its events for a major portion of their livelihood, they had hoped to delay this decision in anticipation that COVID-19 concerns might lessen by summer. Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year.

In addition, WonderCon is also now cancelled. Previously, it was merely postponed, but the same news post confirmed its cancellation for the year. But, like with SDCC, they’re hoping to be back in March next year.

Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures and while we are saddened to take this action, we know it is the right decision. We eagerly look forward to the time when we can all meet again and share in the community we all love and enjoy.
