The Ogrelord is returning. Word from Dreamworks Animation is that Shrek 5 is in the works for 2019. This comes after the reshuffling from recent acquisition by Universal. In addition to Shrek 5, the studio plans to release installments of their popular series, such as How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda, around new original properties to foster a variety of content, with releases twice a year. This strategy, in addition to giving audiences some diversity of content, will likely allow them to take more risks on new IPs while still having proven box office workhorses to back things up.

The Chinese knock-off market shivers in anticipation of this new movie.
