Shrek and Puss in Boots Getting the Soft Reboot Treatment By The Despicable Me Producer

Shrek

It’s ogre, it’s all ogre now.

According to Variety, both Shrek and Puss in Boots will be getting soft reboots overseen by Illumination Animation’s Chris Meledandri. Meledandri was was asked by Universal Pictures to find new stories for both franchises. In addition to that, Meledandri has stated that he’s revisiting the properties, not giving them a hard reboot. He intends to keep as many of the original voice actors as he can get back, including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and Antoni Banderas. Said Meledandri:

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations. The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”

As to what this soft reboot entails, well, that’s anyone’s guess. Just hope there won’t be a Shrek equivalent of Minions. And remember:

Shrek is love,
Shrek is life
