Tom Hardy Moves To The Marvel Universe As The Star Of ‘Venom’

The Oscar-nominated actor –who was once in talks to play a role in the middling Suicide Squad and most known to comic fans as playing Bane in the Dark Knight Rises– has jumped ship over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To be fair, it’s the Sony corner of the Marvel universe, but that’s just splitting hairs.

Hardy will take on the role as the symbiote monster Venom (Eddie Brock) that is one of the main antagonists to Spider-Man. Not entirely sure how this all is going to work as the current Spider-Man is a teenager who has yet to come in contact with the alien symbiote or even has his origin movie in theaters. Also, Hardy is pretty old when paired up with Tom Holland as they are supposed to be work colleagues.

Acting!

This isn’t the first time that Venom will make the big screen as he was one of the antagonists in Sam Rami’s Spider-Man 3. That film isn’t all that well liked –It’s better than you remember– and Venom’s role by That 70’s Show star Topher Grace was an interesting choice. At the very least Tom Hardy is a much better actor than grace.

I would guess that the end of Spider-Man Homecoming will hint at the symbiote alien in some fashion coming to earth.  The script for Venom is coming from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Between the two of them they have credits on Con Air, Kangaroo Jack (we are in good hands) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

We shall she how this story comes together as I’m very interested in how they make this all work. Fingers crossed!
