Get ready for a Tetris movie (and no, we’re not joking)

I’ll be honest, I knew there was a lot of cocaine in Hollywood, but I had no idea there was this much. What I’m trying to say is that someone is actually trying to make a movie based on Tetris, which has been the go-to punchline used to illustrate how creatively bankrupt Hollywood has become. Apparently Lawrence Kasanoff (a producer on True Lies and Mortal Kombat) heard all those jokes and decided that the nerds were on to something.

Kasanoff said this to The Wall Street Journal, presumably with a straight face:

“It’s a very big, epic sci-fi movie,” Threshold’s CEO Larry Kasanoff tells Speakeasy exclusively. “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”

Well, we all know how well this worked out for Battleship, so I can’t wait to see how they build the inevitable trilogy out of this one!

You know, not for nothing, but if the Transformers movies hadn’t made billions of dollars we wouldn’t be in this mess. Thanks a lot, guys.
